Belief and guidance

Muslims believe that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the final prophet in a line that includes Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus. The Quran and the Sunnah—the Prophet’s teachings and example—guide Muslim belief and everyday life.

The five pillars

Five foundations give structure to Muslim worship:

Shahadah
The declaration of faith in one God and Muhammad as His messenger.
Salah
The five daily prayers.
Zakah
Giving from qualifying wealth to eligible people in need.
Sawm
Fasting during the month of Ramadan.
Hajj
Pilgrimage to Makkah for those who are able.

Learning, one step at a time

Belief and practice belong together. Prayer, generosity and responsibility towards others help shape a Muslim’s relationship with God and the wider community. The guides in this collection introduce these subjects in more detail.
